Last Saturday the summer school students from South Africa together with the staff of the Institute of International Educational Programs Simanina Y.B. and Loschinin S.O. visited the festival of historical reconstruction. «Ukek. One day in the life of a medieval city». This event is aimed at reconstructing the medieval Golden Horde city Ukek located in the 13th-14th century near Saratov.
The students had the opportunity to visit a historical place to see recreated pictures of life and peaceful coexistence of representatives of various nationalities and religious confessions.
Our students plunged into the atmosphere of the medieval city. Examining the work of various artisans they admired the skill of the masters of arts and crafts and also looked into the special tent of the Saratov Regional Museum of Local History and looked at the exhibition of unique finds. Our guests especially liked the horse competitions where the knights demonstrated their possession with the sword, bravely chopping cabbage heads, accurately threw spears and not forgetting to pay attention to the fair sex. The students were also entertained by musicians with old instruments from the wheel lyre to the bagpipe, who were replaced by modern rock bands.
Our guests took part in historical scenes and watched the work of blacksmiths, potters, glassmakers, visited a shooting gallery, walked along the mall. The students got a lot of positive emotions, got acquainted with the historical past of our country and charged with positive energy, were delighted with the amazing views of the Volga River.
